Reference Request Information
I am happy to support reference requests when I have adequate time and information to write a thoughtful, high-quality letter. Please review the expectations below before submitting a request.
What I Need From You
Minimum notice: two weeks before the deadline.
Requests with shorter timelines: I will do my best to accommodate them, but I cannot guarantee turnaround in less than two weeks.
Timelines
Please provide the following materials together in one email or shared folder:
Your current CV
Personal statement or cover letter for the role or program (if applicable)
Formal reference request details
Include all links, portals, submission systems, and PDF instructions
Description of how you know me
Role or capacity in which we worked together
When we first worked together (year)
How long we have known each other
Any additional information you believe will strengthen the letter
Awards, relevant projects, leadership roles
Context about your goals and the opportunity you are pursuing
Required from Everyone (students & professionals)
If you were in my undergraduate course, please also include:
A picture of your student ID (helps institutions and me verify identity)
Representative examples of your work in the course
Upload or attach 1–2 assignments, cases, projects, or evaluation summaries
An example where you contributed significantly verbally or in writing
Large-group discussion, presentation, case contribution, or notable engagement
Describe why you think it was impactful for the class
Any reflections on what you learned or how you grew (optional but helpful)
A brief summary of your performance in the course
Additional Requirements for Former Undergraduate Students
I write references for a wide range of academic, professional, and leadership applications. The more context you provide, the stronger and more tailored the letter can be.
If I do not have sufficient information or adequate time, I may decline the request in order to maintain quality and integrity.
