Dr. Andrew Healey is an emergency and critical care physician. He is Chief of Critical Care and Chief of Emergency Medicine at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and a Clinical Professor at McMaster University. He currently serves as Provincial Medical Director for Organ and Tissue Donation with Trillium Gift of Life Network (Ontario Health). His interests include adaptive leadership in health systems, death determination, and improving the donation and transplantation experience for patients and families.
Full Speaker Bio
Dr. Andrew Healey is a specialist in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. He is the Chief of Critical Care and Chief of Emergency Medicine at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and a Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University.
Originally from Newfoundland, Dr. Healey completed fellowship training in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Medicine, with a subspecialty focus on echocardiography, at McMaster University. He also completed a Master’s degree in the Donation of Organs, Tissues, and Cells for Transplantation at the Universitat de Barcelona, Spain.
He currently serves as the Provincial Medical Director for Organ and Tissue Donation with Trillium Gift of Life Network (Ontario Health). His work focuses on system-level leadership in complex clinical environments, with particular attention to adaptive leadership, death determination, and ethically grounded donation and transplantation practices.
Dr. Healey is an active educator and speaker on leadership, health systems, and medical ethics. His teaching draws on Adaptive Leadership and emphasizes diagnosis, presence, and responsibility in the face of uncertainty and loss. He lives in Oakville with his wife and four children.
